Advocacy & Policy

As a membership association representing 47 community hospitals across New Mexico, NMHA advocates for hospitals and the patients and communities they serve.  NMHA works with others to advance public policy that creates a healthier New Mexico by strengthening access to quality care.

NMHA addresses public policy issues at the state and federal levels, in the legislative and regulatory arenas. We take action first by gathering the expertise of on-the-ground hospital leaders. Next, we provide elected officials with the information they need to make informed decisions on healthcare matters that impact the unique people and places of New Mexico. We develop collaborative working relationships with decision makers across organizations, agencies, and aisles to amplify our member's voices.

Key Issues

While NMHA's specific advocacy priorities, plans and actions change to meet member needs and according to current conditions and the political and regulatory environments, several concerns impact New Mexico hospitals year after year.  NMHA staff and member committees continually monitor our key issues.

Hospital quality and patient safety are the cornerstone
of all we do.

People are the heart of every  hospital. We work to strengthen our workforce.

Access to quality care depends upon strong and stable finances for all hospitals.
