Key Issues
While NMHA's specific advocacy priorities, plans and actions change to meet member needs and according to current conditions and the political and regulatory environments, several concerns impact New Mexico hospitals year after year. NMHA staff and member committees constantly monitor key issues, including hospital finance, workforce and behavioral health.
Finance
General, acute care hospitals provide inpatient medical care and related services for surgery, medical conditions and injuries, usually for a short period of time.
Workforce
In less populated areas, hospitals may be smaller and focus on emergency care and other services desperately needed by patients who would otherwise travel too far for help.
Behavioral Health
Specialty hospitals are facilities that specifically focus on one or more areas of medicine or care for a particular group of patients. Examples include behavioral health, rehabilitation and long term care hospitals.
